I'd prefer a Boxster over a 996 Cab given your budget.
The Boxster is more affordable. In either case, you'll need to either budget for or buy one with the IMS addressed, or decide you aren't worried about it.
That said, go out and drive a couple examples of both. I bet that informs your opinion more than anything else.
