I have never once, ever come across soil like that. Carving it up with a knife like that, to me, is more like sawing packed snow than digging dirt.
Just add water and viola!-Waterproof stucco!
Not here, no how.
I’m gonna construct a free-standing lumber door jamb and plant it in the field. Using a snowblower, I’ll diligently cover it with surrounding snow as weather permits. Once the mound with the frame within is large enough I’ll start dig out the doorway and carve out a cave behind it.
I’ve read igloos can attain a temp of 50° in sub-zero conditions.
I’m skeptical.
