First, thanks for the steering help. Got it all back in ship-shape, then disaster struck... timing belt broke

Again, we're up and running (except for a new and mysterious exhaust sound around 3k rpm in 3rd gear only) and now I MUST fix my ghetto door handle.
Went to open driver's side door, heard a *clunk*, outer handle no longer works. When you squeeze it, you get nothing. Inner handle is fine.
I have the door panel removed - now I sit there looking blankly at it. I'm guessing my problem lay behind the black metal thing who's removal is escaping me.
HELP!
