Ah... but therein lies the slippery slope of Porsche fandom. You're right. But then you could get an additional 50 HP, and a full on 911 (996) for just a few dollars more.



And at that point, for a few dollars more than that you could get a 996 3.6,

... and so on.

At the end of the day, buy the car that you want. I have a 911 2.0E, and I've driven an SC and a Carrera 3.2 (in addition to the Boxster 2.7). They all "feel" quick, and not that different from each other (excepting the weight, and where it's put). The 2.0E is really the only one where I can stretch its legs some before I get into seriously extra-legal speeds. So if all that you can afford (or want) is a Boxster 2.5 - go for it! You'll be able to spend more time at WOT than the owner of a Boxster S.

Besides, some people (like myself) don't like all of the extra "nannies" which are standard on the newer, and higher spec models.
