Proper Sales Etiquette
Just wondering others thoughts.
I sold a hardtop yesterday.
The guy traveled 3.5 hrs to get. He asked me about the condition and I said it had some scratches on the roof. Not bad enough I noticed when I bought and not bad enough that it bothered me to fix. I drove around for a week before even noticing. 20 year old roof, in pretty great shape. By the way, when I bought the guy told me it was in perfect shape. It close but not perfect. I never called the guy.
Well they are faint dings not scratches so I worded wrong. My mistake. So the guy comes up, we install and he hands me the cash. Before he leaves he mentions the dings and ask me if they were there. I said yes, that how it came when I bought it. I tried to send pictures of the imperfections on Friday but unfortunately they didn't show the dings. The hardtop wasn't at my house (in storage) so I couldn't take pictures. Anyhow, he sends me a text saying he would have offered $200 less. Now if he had mentioned he was upset yesterday , I probably just would have gave him the $200 to avoid the bull of having to ship. I had a lot of offers but shipping was a problem. I've told him I will send him $100 and he can have a ding guy massage them out or just bring back for full refund. He's okay with the $100 back.
What is proper etiquette?
