My brother-in-law just celebrated his 45th anniversary at his place of work. He started working there just after he graduated from high school. It is the only job he has ever had.

I worked at Pro Photo for 27 years until digital photography killed professional photo labs. Then worked for another different digital photo lab for a few years until I could see the "good enough" for me mentality of customers and printing was vanishing. I had the chance to go to aerial photography, the last holdout of analog film based photography. Then digital finally was superior to film cameras that cost $500,000 and a dedicated Cessna 206 airplane with 24 inch holes in the belly to carry it around.

We just delivered to the client a job we flew on Saturday. It is better in every way than the same thing done on film. Sharper, clearer, higher resolution, more accurate, way better color, faster, and way cheaper for us to produce. Cheaper for the client, and we make more money for less effort.

So owning my own company is only my 5th different job. All involve photography. I never did have a manager or a line of managers to report to. If I had a question, I went to the boss and owner, and got a decision.
