My son wrestled from middle school through high school. What protocols are you talking about specifically? Infections (e.g., ringworm), concussion, etc.? He's a senior in college now, so this was a few years ago (although our youngest, his younger sister, was a team manager for a couple of years in high school). I mean EVERY sport is getting more sensitive to injury. In and of itself not a bad thing.
I do remember the assistant coach complaining about the ongoing "pussification of America" at one point, but I don't remember the specific context. My son got a kick out of that one
Wrestling is a great character sport. The wrestling coach at my son's high school would tell all the teachers to let them know if one of his wrestlers misbehaved in class, so he could give them hell at practice.
A lot of schools are getting rid of it, which is a shame.
