During my oil change last weekend I was inspecting the El Camino tires. The fronts are due for replacements. Down to the wear bars. The rears are in much better shape and are fine.
The BFG tires I use have pretty good traction. Orders of magnitude better than the tires of the 1990s
The 911 has the Michelin Pilots, and I was amazed how much traction they have in the wet. One of our autocrosses last year was a misty wet day. No real rain, but the track was totally wet, and I needed my windshield wipers. It was fun to really push hard in wet conditions and see how far the limit was. I could corner way more than I figured was possible. I would never push that hard on the road in the rain. The are summer performance tires, so they would suck big time in ice or snow.
