I was "stashed" at VA-42, the A-6 RAG in NAS Oceana before flight school, 1983 time frame. I got a seat qual and a ride (back seat) in a Phantom. I have two aviation truisms:
The Phantom is proof that with enough power, bricks fly, and fly well.
A CH-53E is like flying your house from the bathroom.

Indeed. But the Spad was more ground attack, an amazing aircraft with the aerodynamic properties of a Volkswagen Bus.
