Okay, kid places 3rd in League Tournament. Top four in each weight class from 4 leagues get to go off to New Englands. School now is saying he might not get to go because the school only sends so many kids and he missed a lot of matches. So now he gets punished for ring worm that he got at school, a concussion that likely never existed and because the fat machine said he was at 6% body fat when the Coach said he was more like 12% but they are forced to go by the machine. 2 weeks for that, 2 weeks for the concussion and 2 for the ringworm. Nothing disciplinary. Went to practice and did everything they asked of him.
Aslo, with the Concussion protocol they kept him out of real practice until the day before the tournament which would decide if he could go to the New Englands. I was worried for him due to lack of conditioning. Even so, with All these obstacles, he still rose up and did what needed to be done.
The rules for the NE's say specifically if you place in the top 4 and win specifically 66% of your matches you are eligible for the NE's. There is no mention of the number of matches from which I read today. Also, when I was concerned about the last protocol keeping him from the New Englands, I brought up the number of matches and the coaches told me the number of matches didn't matter, only the 66%. Now he is around 80% and they are using that against him.
Unfortunately a lot of people who hear these stories are going to mask problem just so they can keep competing. So maybe these protocols are nearly as effective as one would think.
Also, to be clear; I do not think he is a state champion and likely would not do so great at the New England's. Win or lose though, it is a place to grow as a wrestler both at skill and being use to a bigger stage. Also, he's a junior, so this opportunity might not come again. To deprive him of this is one more kick in the butt.
