I sold off my BTR intercooler about 20 years ago. He said the other night on the phone he paid nearly 4K for it and planned to use it. He said it's a nice piece of hardware and that Ruf used them on their RTC model cars. Since I don't have my original intercooler I will definitely go with that for the time being. So I'm already fudging on originality. Do you think a future buyer would fuss if the car had an RS 964 alloy bonnet? Would they think, no biggie, we can always replace it with a steel one?! Even if I sold it, net profit might only be 3.5 K in the long term. I can borrow the money I need from my daughters college fund as long as I pay it back over time which I can by selling other things.
OK, so with the caveat that I am the kind of guy that doesn't mind hotrodded cars, but at the same time I do like a good time capsule, here's what I think: If I were a buyer, I would consider an RS alloy bonnet to be a bonus and I would not ding it for being unoriginal. At the same time, I would not EXPECT there to be an RS alloy bonnet there. I can't imagine 3.5K will factor into the final purchase price for such a high dollar collectible. I think that's 3.5K you can free up and it won't hurt the value of the car in the least.
