Some of our clients still use AutoCAD for their companies. One of the services we provide is a contour lines that would show the topography of every change in elevation over the clients area. We also do the line drawing of very ground object in the customer area. So every bush, utility pole, parking lot strip, footprint of a building, curb, manhole and on and on. Mobile objects like cars or trucks are ignored.
And some of them are still using AutoCAD from 20 years ago and those need a spatial add on to deal with the positioning of where the site is on the planet. More modern version work with it just fine. We also make point clouds. Those are cool. It is a literally a point in space with a precise value for the X,Y and X position, and the RGB (visual color) of that point. If you zoom back it looks like a photo, zoom in and all it shows are points with positional information. It is easy to rotate them and look from the side or even underneath them.
Those point clouds are huge. The can have billions of points and get silly big. It was 56 gigabytes and just a monster.
From the metadata: LIDAR POINT COUNT=1,711,583,314
(So 1.7 trillion points)
