I mounted bbs 10-spoke 17*7 on my 76 (nb, no flares at all), but didn't drive with them (no tires). Close to the spring plate bolts, looked like ok clearance to the fenders in the rear. Front looked ok too.
Didn't have tires on them so not really conclusive.
