They are a simple magnetic pickup coil. Hook an ohm meter up to it, the connections are inside a bracket on the back of the intake manifold that holds the referance sensors and the O2 sensor. Have an assistant crank the car over look for changes in the resistance. Thats how you know they are working. Or if you have a really great set of tool's hook it to an O-scope and watch the wave as it's cranked over.
