Sounds like a lot of work to get the old radio working. Is it worth it? Old technology when so many new radios can be put in. Maybe you can try some junk yards in Germany or the UK. My Blau went out, I put in a fancy nice new radio, put the old Blau in a box to hand to next owner when I sell the car.
