The ONLY thing the canister does is collect fuel vapors to burn later while the engine is running. The ECU moderates this burn and it get figured into the mixture control mostly by the O2 sensor but also regulated as to when the vapor get burned by way of the ECU and what I think they call the tank valve that allows vacuum to the canister to suck out the fumes. Unless the thing malfunctions and fills with raw fuel the ECU mixture control easily compensates for the vapors and there is no performance effect either way whether it's there or not. I relocated mine with the Ztechnic kit but who knows where those guys disappeared to. The only real disadvantage of not having the canister is that on warm or hot days your garage will smell like gasoline with the fumes not being collected by the canister. Usually not too bad, but I wouldn't park it near a gas operated hot water heater.
