Boxster 986 Drive train strange noise
Hello, I will appreciate any help on this issue I have on my 986 Boxster. Here is the story.
I recently bought a preowned Boxster 2003 2.7 5 speed with 15,000 miles from an authorized dealer. After driving it for about 200 miles I noticed a strange noise coming from the rear left wheel. I then checked the tire and brake assembly finding nothing was wrong. I suspect the noise might be coming from the wheel bearing. The sound starts squeaking and whistleing at 15mph and increases with speed.
It is not the common knocking sound of a CV joint, nor the hawling of a worn out bearing. It seems more like a high pitch whistle.
I ran the car in neutral, with clutch engaged and disengaded, with the engine running and with the engine off, braking softly, braking hard. The sound is still there as long as the car is moving above 15mph and does not change with driving conditions.
I decided to take it to the dealer. They diagnosed a faulty drive shaft. The solution: replace the drive shaft assembly with CV joints.
The parts have not arrived yet so my car is seating on the dealer shop. I'm not sure ir the diagnostic is correct. Does anybody have had an issue like this?
Thanks for your comments.
