Wife's Prius gen 2 (2006) started making crazy buzzing/whining sounds from the stereo.

She takes to mechanic, they say amplifier is bad and refer her to a car stereo shop.

Stereo shop quotes her $800 to replace the stereo, says its deep in the dash.

I locate the amplifier under the front passenger seat, unplug wires from amplifier, sounds stop. Buy a used Prius amplifier off eBay for $67. Remove six screws, pull out old amplifier, install "new" one, all is fixed.

Man, some shops will rip people off if they get a chance.
