Many years ago I had an old all mechanical dishwasher. It had a little motor that operated a mechanical cycle timer. The timer mechanism died, so I pulled it out and went to a local appliance parts store. I handed it to the you counter helper and he said the classic "I have never seen anything like that before" And he started typing in the model number for my dishwasher and found nothing. He pulled out the books, and started flipping pages. He was shaking his head when the "old grey" store owner walked past. He stopped and said something like "Wow an old model 1522-M I haven't seen one of those in years". Of course the kid said it looks like we don't have one and can't get them. Then the old grey said, sure we do, look here. He reached under the front counter and pulled out a box that had a 1/4 inch of dust on it and blew it off. In the box was just what I needed, and it even had a warranty card! The kid said that was not in the computer and of it had been on the shelf for years. The store owner said there were lots of parts from before the days of computers. I offered him 20 bucks for it, and held out a $20 bill. The old man took the cash, put it in his pocket and handed me the part. It was the perfect fix for my old dishwasher. I did not send in the warranty card.
