Yup, bakelite. Unfortunately, it appears that maybe they are old enough to have dried out or something. They are quite brittle. I now have a set of aftermarket hard rubber stocks on it so I can shoot it without worrying about it. Funny, though, I have an even older Walther P38 given to me by my father-in-law when I married his daughter. He acquired it "from a German acquaintance" in Italy in 1945... Anyway, it has bakelite stocks as well, and seems to be holding up just fine.
