Golly that sounds like work! Yuck.
Speaking of work, the program I use to make the orthophotos has a bunch of steps. It shows my what it is doing step by step so I know it is not locked up and really doing something.
One of the steps that makes me grin every time I see it is "Computing Uncertainty". How certain is it that the uncertainty is precisely calculated? And if it is certain, why not figure out how to make it less uncertain! I want precision not uncertainty!
It is pretty amazing the math needed to figure out just where the camera was and if the camera is pointing straight down, or off to a side due to the wings not being level. And then calculate that all those photos shot at 100 MPH showing a particular spot on the ground, and the placement of each pixel of the image needs to be shifted one way or the other and how to calculate the height of a hill, the depth of a ditch or hole, and make it fit to the targets.
