Here are seven hurricanes that have forced Disney World to close its theme parks.
Hurricane Elena
Magic Kingdom and Epcot closed early on Aug. 31, 1985 due to concerns about Hurricane Elena, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Hurricane Floyd
Disney World’s theme parks and water parks closed early on Sept. 14, 1999 and remained closed on Sept. 15 for Hurricane Floyd. Disney’s Animal Kingdom eventually opened on Sept. 15 after Floyd’s path made an unexpected turn, according to the All Ears Disney fan site.
Hurricane Charley
Disney World parks closed early on Aug. 13, 2004 because of Hurricane Charley, CBS reported. Disney’s Animal Kingdom never opened on Aug. 13, according to CBS.
Hurricane Frances
Disney World shuttered its gates on Sept. 4 and 5 in 2004 for Hurricane Frances, CNBC reported. Disney MGM Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach remained closed on Sept. 6, according to All Ears.
Hurricane Jeanne
Disney World resort parks were closed again on Sept. 26, 2004 because of Hurricane Jeanne, according to CNBC.
Hurricane Matthew
Disney World closed early on Oct. 6, 2016 and remained closed on Oct. 7 due to Hurricane Matthew, according to CNBC.
Hurricane Irma
Disney’s Florida parks closed early on Sept. 9, 2017 and remained closed on Sept. 10 and 11 for Hurricane Irma, according to All Ears.
