Caymans were more expensive new vs Boxsters. Only Porsche could charge more for a coupe than an equivalent conv. The hook for the price difference was the Cayman originally had 10 more HP than the Box in 2006. Then there were a few yrs where they were the same HP, then the Cayman got the addl HP boost again with the 987.2 and 981. So the Boxster was always the entry level Porsche. However, that changed with the 718 - Porsche now considers the Cayman the entry level car. But Caymans have remained higher than a Box on the used mkt too.
I have both a Cayman S and Boxster S and enjoy them both. They have different roles in life and do a great job filling those roles.
