(preliminary) tests show that the virus doesn't last long on cardboard - the real issue is whether the delivery guy sneezed just before dropping it off - gnd, O'nite, whatever

just let it sit in the sun a few hours, or wash your hands after opening but before removing anything (or dump it onto a counter, then wash)

or put on your protective hear and hose it down with bleach - may not need to cut it open then...
