Im in NY and for the past 2 days we have received notices/directives from courts advising what types of cases can be filed. As of yesterday all evictions are suspended statewide. Soon there will be a moratorium on foreclosures. Same thing happened after hurricane Sandy. The reasons for this are many and should be obvious. For one, If everyone loses their income and then gets evicted at the same time, none of you will like what happens next
I don’t like it because I am about to lose my income over these filing suspensions but I do understand it and support it. I much rather not have thousands and thousands of hungry homeless angry people walking around my neighborhood
In other words, one reason is to protect the public health. Another is to not over burden the court system. Another reason is to let some time pass to see if people rebound and work out an arrangement with the landlord/lender etc......
