Remember when Bushy was talked into going to the UN to get a finial resolution about Saddam and Irak.
There were 3 reasons for it.
1. It was a sop to Colin Powell.. a
PR gesture to make it appear the US was working with the international community to solve the problem rather than just be unilateral about it...
2. It gave the US military time to build up it's military presence in Kuwait and the Persian Gulf
3. It gave time for the boyz in the White House time to make some kind of plans for a post Saddam Irak. This is why Rummy and Wolfie ultimately signed off on going to the UN.
The first two reasons were widely reported and are no brainers...but the post war planning for Irak was not. They tried desperately to find some group or faction other than the Kurds that they could support in Irak to help the US overthorow Saddam. But they found ole Saddamie did his work too well. So the WH in the end really didn't know what it was going to do or take to reconstruct Irak...they had no plan, because there was nothing they could hang their hat on. They went in flying blind.
