Argh.
My head hurts. I will stop fighting with the Linux stuff for now. Every bit of information I seem to find tells me I can reload the Buffalo firmware on the Raid system if I were just a little knowledgeable in Linux. I did manage to load a bootable copy of Linux Mint, and even did the software updates needed on the RAID box. That will let me maybe format and do the Grub2 operations to make a bootable USB drive to restore the factory firmware. But the instructions are all written by someone that assumes the user is a Linux old hand and understands the basics.
I hate the feeling of overwhelming ignorance.
At least the box does run Linux Mint with no issues on one of the drives.
The good new is we are not in a big hurry or desperate for the box to go back on line.
