Here's a good mistake I made a couple years ago..re-fitted engine and trans.. oil lines, filled with oil, drive shafts connected, sway bar in, the lot...
Turned the key and "whirrrrrr".... wtf?
Starter motor is spinning freely but engine not turning over...
Straight away I realised I forgot to fit the starter ring to the pressure plate assembly.. had the motor back out in about 2 hours.. and never made that mistake again!!
