Ok, so I have been doing a lot of testing. I reconnected the cut red wire to the DME and removed the switch completely. The car starts up with the key now. But now I no longer have fog lights or turn signal/hazards. The lights on the switches come on when engaged and when I hit the hazard signal I get a steady flasher light on the dash but no actual flashers. I don't know if this is part of it but I am still not able to figure out what these two wires are for or what they go to (Red and Brown maybe). They are in an offshoot loom on their own under the driver side of the dash. I have poured over the workshop electrical manual and searched multiple forums but I am still not able to identify them. Does anyone have an idea?
