Thanks folks - great info! I'll go ahead and replace bearings, but will be very careful about re-ringing, preferring to do whatever will be best for the continued health of this car.
I will soon provide a longer, more detailed post about this car and about my approach in helping to ensure its continued health into the future.
In the meantime, I know I will continue to have questions...and will do my best to post updates - and photos!
