Car: 1959 Volkswagen Beetle DeLuxe Sunroof Sedan "Herbie"
1300cc engine, 4 speed manual
Mods: Custom made 15x6 widened wheels with BF Goodrich tires, front beam stiffener, Superior Control Bars, EMPI Camber Compensator, KONI reds all around. Converted from 1959 Euro spec to 1963 specs. Factory sunroof car.
History: Car #6 of 12 built for Disney's "The Love Bug". Purchased in 1968 modified to be a remote controled 2nd unit stunt car. Used extensively in the final "Eldorado" race of the film. Rolled and repaired on set, still showing repairs to the roof today. The car was reused in the 1974 sequel "Herbie Rides Again" before being placed in storage and eventually sold to the MovieWorld Cars of the Stars museum in Buena Park, CA (Ed "Big Daddy" Roth, Von Dutch & Steve McQueen hangout). Later sold to the famous Harrah's Collection of Reno, NV. Found next to a Nevada barn in the late 1980s and given a full restoration in the early 1990s. I have had Herbie in my collection since 1996 and have gone to great lengths to re-restore the car to how it appeared in "The Love Bug". The car is fully documented and I still retain the original California pink slip in Disney Studios name, and have full documentation from 1968 to today.
