I decided to yank the MFI pump off the motor (easy when it's on the stand!) and run it through its paces one more time on the test rig. So that got pulled from its hiding spot and put into service.
There was actually more than one factor in deciding to do this - not the least of which, is that I tested the pump while running it BACKWARDS before! I had to check my youtube channel to be sure:
But this dawned on me the other day while I was turning the motor over to top dead center #1..... the cams rotate in the opposite direction to the crank. I'm so used to timing belts..... anyway, luckily, this makes zero difference in the pump calibration but it does make the pump return to zero throttle angle better than it did before (it was always a little sticky).
I also wanted to play around with the various pump adjustments, turning each adjustment a few clicks this way or that, just to get a feel for how well it responds to such adjustments, but also give myself a bit of practice doing the adjustments. To me the idle mixture adjustment screw is counter-intuitive, whereas the main rack adjustment makes sense. Good news, though, they are working like they should! Repeatable and stable. Repeatable and stable makes me happy!
Last but not least, this Covid nonsense is cramping my style. I wanted to buy a spare electric fuel pump because if I decide to pull the pump off the car and play with calibration on the rig, I have to steal the pump (full of gas) off the car! So I'll get my monkeying around done now.
