What I did was:
Disconnect battery
Remove rubber cover over the switch.
Unscrewed the cover
Gently disconnected the switch from the wiring
Applied the grease to the contacts
Reconnected wires and reassembled
Reconnect battery
.....and the lights shone when I opened the door!
