Back in the early 1980s I was dating a chick that had turned 40,000 miles on her 1978 Mustang 2 she bought new. I asked he when she last had an oil change. She looked at me like I was joking. She had been taught to check the level, and she topped it off with whatever oil was at the 7-11 at the time. So I suggested we change the oil and filter. The oil came out like 90 weight oil and was jet black. I put on a new filter and the old one had a Ford logo on it. Added the oil and checked the level, and the oil was instantly black.
I have never seen jellied oil except in videos when it was super cold. I saw one when it was well below zero and they cut open a new can of 50 weight oil and it was jellied like that.
