Fuel additives that get past the rings and contaminate the oil, and it reacts with PAO in the oil to do that.
I've heard rumors that some versions of fuel "preservatives" can also do that, but I can't confirm.
Today's fuels are very goods and don't need additives. The only one i would consider is techron, and a bottle of that stuff will last me a lifetime.
