Just did mine as well. Turns out when I had my car media blasted for a new paint job, a lot of excess media floated down to the abyss, and gummed up the light switches. I removed both switches (without disconnecting the wire) and worked them over with a toothbrush. Now they work great.

When I backed out the switches, I left them connected to the wire, so the switch still stops the setup from falling into the abyss. If you separate the switch from the wire, you'll have to anchor the wire somehow to prevent a drop through.

Now on to tackling the glove box light. Someone removed the ground lead to the switch.
