He would have been sweating and avoiding eye contact. That would have been more than enough to raise suspicion.
It's one thing to plan something as horrible as this but actually carrying it out is something entirely different.
So yes the cop did his job well. I hope he was officially recognised for his actions.

As far as I remember no regret and McVeigh wanted the death penalty, eith by firing sqaud or hanging. I forget which.
