I had a very similar problem and worked on it for a couple months on and off. It was a rear suspension trailing arm. When on the lift the arm was bound so nothing to notice. Found it finally after putting the car on a alignment rack and going underneath.
That hemispheric ball wears out quickly if the rubber cover is compromised and this one was.
The whole time it sounded like a rattle in the top mechanism. The sound always seemed to originate much higher in the car than where it was. It was worn about 10 thousandths and made a decent amount of racket. Only on bumpy streets.
