Hey guys - I wanted to provide an update to this thread.
A coupe of nights ago, I decided to take my car out for a drive and blow out the cobwebs. Low and behold the PC680 was dead (even though I keep it on a NoCo tender) and even though it is just over two years old.
Looking at replacements online the cheapest PC680 or PC625 replacements I found were as low as $125 to $140 (plus another $10-$15 for shipping). I felt hard spending that kind of money and wanted to look at other wallet friendly options with equal or better performance.
I recently had success using "regular" ETX batteries from my local O'Reillys / Checkers parts store. The ETX20 has a nearly identical case to the PC680 and also has the identical weight but has almost double the cold cranking amps as the PC680 (170CCA vs 310CCA), another advantage is price. The ETX20L (with a $10 battery core deposit) and my small O'Reillys discount plus tax I paid $96 out the door, so quite a bit cheaper than the PC680 plus very available at nearly all parts stores.
I have a Rennline PC680 mount in my car that only required a small amount of slotting to the holes in the top plate (5 minutes) and placing a thin rubber based below the ETX20L as it is a little shorter than the PC680, to get it to the "right" height so it does not move once in place. All in all a successful new installation and excellent option to the PC680.
And some pictures!
