When in scouts we were always armed on our camping trips. Difference was we had to pack our food, no stops, and had to sleep gear we brought as well. The only one that slept in the van was the scoutmaster. Still remember the look on his face in the window of the van when looked over at the van with mountain lions creeping through camp.

Dressed cooked and ate all kinds of animals and fish. Caught trout with a bow and arrow. Had rattlesnake too. Good thing we didn't ever come across any bobcats when the forestry service was paying $75 a pelt or we probably would have tried bobcat stew! At least tried most everything, BUT turned down the bass they caught that were full of worms.

It was fun enough we kept doing it even though half the kids in our troop were handicapped.
Funny how fast the handicapped guys could run when being chased by dobermans.

Guess the other big difference is the non-handicapped had to pass all their first aid badges before they could go on our camping/hiking trips.
Had one kid have an epileptic fit crossing a waterfall. We had to carry him back to camp so could take him to town for stitches. Cracked his head open. And once on a 50 mile hike a small group of a Dad and two handicapped kids got lost. Did not find them until the next morning. Found them because the kids screamed. Dad had made them some nice beds in some tall grass which is why we couldn't find them. They were awoken by a bunch of cows gathered around them munching on the grass and that scared the two kids.
