My first weekend with my 914 was a LOT more fun that yours. I picked it up at the dealership with 4 miles on it. I brought it back Monday morning at 8:00 AM with 601 miles on it for the initial service. Drain the break in oil in the engine and transmission, adjust the valves and complete inspection. It was the one "free service" I was to receive. After that they saw it for warranty work only. I did all the maintenance.
I knew of some fun roads that brought me to Weogufka, AL. I stopped to get gas at a station I expected to see Goober from Andy Griffith's show. Two little boys about 6 & 7 were sitting on the bench in front and one said to the other, lookie thar, that is a real race car! I just nodded.
In 1974 all cars had a seat belt interlock. The car HAD to have the seat belt buckled or the car would not start or even run. It was a crappy idea and crappy installation at Porsche. I could be driving along, hit a big bump like a RR tracks, and the car would die. No cell phones in the 1970s so walk to phone booth, call the dealer have them pick it up and fix it.
After the second time I investigated how to bypass it. Again, no internet, just me with an test light and multimeter. I discovered the oil pressure sensor wire was used. I bypassed that and the control box could be removed.
The headliner was just glued right to the inside of the roof. Germans make lousy glue. It would sag when it rained. I took the car in, and they discovered they ordered the wrong headliner. So I had to bring it back a few weeks later. That headliner was in great shape when I sold the car.
