I just bought my first one, 1971 914 1.7. The car has been sitting for over 3 years. On one hand I'd like to keep the car original but I live in Texas and I do enjoy my air conditioning, so, after I get through all of the body work and rust repairs, I'll be doing an EZ30 and a Subaru 5 speed swap. What I can't seem to find any information on is what people do about rear springs when adding additional weight to the car. From what I've been able to find, doing this swap will add about 130-160 pounds of extra weight on the rear springs.
Do any of you all know what spring rate the original 4 cylinder springs are and what I should look for to support the heftier Subaru drivetrain? I know I can do coil overs to make it adjustable but I still need a good starting point.
Thank you
