I read that in the french press also, there's supposedly a pre-contract in place already but it depends on Renault staying in F1. Covid didn't do Renault any good at a time when the company was already in financial trouble. This is kinda symbiotic, having Alonso back could help "sell" funding of the team for next year to the board... Win win.
Also Binotto is using the old tried and true "Ferrari to Indycar threat" as they are unhappy about the budget caps... Also endurance is being looked at. And no, nobody is taking that seriously ;-)
