Years ago my dad had a rod bearing failure (also at WGI) on a '70 911, and reported that the oil pressure increased. Sounds counter-intuitive, but it turned out that an oil passage had become blocked. In 1970 the pressure gauge was at the front of the engine, so a blockage downstream could indeed cause a higher reading where the pressure sender was located. Not sure whether the blockage caused the failure, or was the result of it.
