I was working on a film in Albuquerque and having a beer at a tavern on my day off.
They had a rugby game on TV from NZ and the guy next to me (early 50's) was explaining the finer points of the game. I asked him if he still played and he said "My job has taken me to different places for the last 30 years. Whenever I come to a new place I join the local rugby league. That way I've immediately got a bunch of faithful friends to drink with and will have my back in a bar fight".
Seemed like sound advice to me.
