There is a car alarm for interiors that when tripped emits an ear-drum breaking alarm only in the car's interior that I've always liked the idea of. Lo-Jack "tracking device" is also effective.
I use a steering wheel "The Club" that locks thru the steering wheel's spokes and up against the inside of the windshield and prevents steering wheel from rotating after parking the car with the wheels turned all the way to the left or right. Like bicycle "Kryptonite" locks, a thief would then have to freeze the lock's key cylinder with a sprayable/injectable freezing agent (freon refrigerant?) and then hammer/sledge the lock apart while frozen to remove it.
