I just don't want to go through the same issues that gngroup went through to try to recover his car.

Lock bar.
Noise maker alarm.
The idea is to dissuade the thief. Noisy. Lock bar. Car won't start. Time to move on to the next one (unless they have a flat-bed and are dead set on getting the car).
