About the second kind you showed, there is a snap ring inside that keeps you from screwing the whole end off of it. You have to overcome the snap ring to get it apart. I've gotten them apart by putting the big end in a vise and unscrewing the end with a pipe wrench. I like to fix and salvage good tools, and a solid brass hose end sprayer should be a good tool. But it's not with the effort. Anymore I throw them in recycling and get another one.
