I have a Synology NAS drive on my home network. These things are basically a simple server with limited processor and memory and a bunch of drive bays. Most of them allow you to download/install various applications that will run on them that do all sorts of things. Synology has a "Docker" app available. (Docker is a set of platform as a service products that uses OS-level virtualization to deliver software in packages called containers. Containers are isolated from one another and bundle their own software, libraries and configuration files).
I discovered that it's possible (easy) to install pi-hole in docker, so now my NAS is running pi-hole. It seems to be working really well. I hit a bunch of news sites (
www.cnn.com www.usatoday.com,
www.dailymail.co.uk,
www.telegraph.co.uk, etc...) which seem to be the worst of the worst when it comes to extra crap going on in the background and they fly.
So if you have a nas, you may want to see if it has an option to install pi-hole (so you don't have to buy a raspberry pi or extra server/PC)
