See if you can find a record by a band called Disco Inferno. The title of the album is "In Debt" it came out on Che Records in the mid 1990s. Very JD-esque (Joy Division) and really good. There's some stuff on Factory Records (JD and New Order's label) from the same era that is a bit more obscure than these two, but still really good. Check out Section 25 and the Durutti Column. Also, some of New Order's more obscure stuff like their first album "Movement" and their first single "Ceremony" are really, really good. Some other bands to check out would be Wire (any of their early records), the Buzzcocks, Fad Gadget, and A Certain Ratio. Interpol is more of a Jesus and Mary Chain "Darklands" album influence, and is kind of the darker side to the post-Strokes 80's retro thing. The music that emerged from that trend you might like too, including My Bloody Valentine, Pale Saints, Slowdive, and others. Finely textured, but darkish and moving music.

If you have any questions about early 80's brit post-punk or indie music in general, I would bet I'm the guy here to ask. I work at a recording studio, have been a muscian for the last 10 years, and music is my life and livelyhood. I have thousands of CDs and albums of stuff directly and vaguely related, so if there is anything that you'd like to check out, let me know. I might be able to make a mix CD or something for you.

Regards,

Jason
